Club History

The Island Swim Club, Inc. opened in the summer of 1962. The founding group, which was formed as a not-for-profit membership corporation originally wanted a swim club located on the North Shore of Staten Island, but no suitable property could be found. So, they set their sights on Rockland Avenue, which wasn't much more than a country road at that time. There were no homes along the road, except for the house adjacent to our property's exit. In addition to the pool, 300 cabanas were built to accomodate the membership. The cabanas were a "first" for Staten Island. From the outset, the club was a huge success, and over the years, many generations of families have come to love the relaxing summers spent there. Today, the property is surrounded by homes and the Staten Island Mall is close-by. However, once inside the property -- it's difficult not to feel like you're still in "old Staten Island!"
